One of the things that many of us look to improve on when we bring in the New Year is our career and whether or not we are satisfied with our current line of work. If you are thinking about making a career change you may want look at the growing oil and gas industry. The oil and gas boom already supports 1.7 million jobs and will lead to the creation of 1.3 million jobs in the U.S. by the end of the decade.
Drivers With the production of oil increasing there is a need to transport valuable material in the form of equipment and liquids to the needed locations. While pipelines can provide some of the necessary transportation there is still a need for high-quality experienced drivers to help with transportation needs. To become a driver in the oil and gas industry you will need to have a good motor vehicle record with a limited number of tickets over a certain number of years and possess your commercial driver’s license. Other factors such as the title endorsements you will need will depend on what you will be hauling. One of the reasons this position is in such demand is because it is difficult to find drivers who meet many of the qualifications of having a clean MVR who also have a solid amount of driving experience. This is critical since the material and equipment that is being transferred is very valuable.
Engineers Engineers have always been in demand in the oil and gas industry, but specifically there has been a high request for Petroleum Engineers. Petroleum Engineers are responsible for designing and developing methods to extract oil and gas from deposits below the Earth’s surface. They also examine the quality of recovered oil and gas before separating the different components. To become a Petroleum Engineer you will need a bachelor’s degree in petroleum or chemical engineering for all entry-level positions. Reservoir Engineers are also not far behind and Drilling Engineers are another very highly sought after position.
Management With the hiring of new entry-level positions and crew expansion there is the need for those individuals who have been there and done that to fill the much-needed management positions. Some of the management/supervising positions you’ll see on an oil rig site include Toolpushers and Drillers. Finding individuals that can organize crews and ensure all proper equipment material is on-site to get the job done is critical to production. Finding individuals to fulfill management positions will require you to already be involved in this profession with at least a couple of years of experience usually 5 to 10 years is preferred. Experience in the oil and gas field is the greatest asset companies can have, making it very competitive to keep their skilled employees from possibly pursuing other opportunities. If management is your forte, but you don’t have direct experience in the oil and gas field you may be able to get into an entry-level training management program that a company is offering.
Geologists and Geophysicists Geologists study how rocks were formed and how they have changed since they were created. Geophysicists study not only the Earth’s surface but also its interior. As oil and gas companies look to find new locations to drill these positions will become more important. Geologist use advanced computer technology to survey a region so that they can find oil deposits and properly instruct teams where to drill. As an entry level Geologist for an oil and gas company you will need at least a Bachelors degree, and in most cases you will be working under the senior Geologists.
Entry Level Oil Rig Jobs Entry level oil rig jobs come with an attractive salary package and a rare opportunity of working in environments that are considered challenging. More and more companies are now coming up with the development of numerous oil exploration jobs and projects.
These jobs are in two categories: onshore and offshore. Because offshore jobs are tougher than the onshore, it is important that one gets experience first working onshore before getting into offshore jobs.
The offshore oil rig jobs prove to be more challenging because of the traveling involved to get to the project site and also the workers spend a lot of time away from the shore and face many dangers including hurricanes. With the kind of physical input involved, one has to undergo a thorough medical examination before getting a job at an oil rig. The roustabout has the responsibility of guiding cranes that move loads from one place to another on the deck. Their secondary responsibilities include cleaning, maintenance and ensuring the crew has all the necessary equipment on the deck. They also offer a hand on the drill floor to the roughnecks. * The maintenance roustabout is in charge of painting, general upkeep and cleaning the deck. * The welders are responsible for building metal works and carrying out repairs. They are normally employed in large numbers depending on how big the project is. They are permanently based on the rig though they may need to travel to various locations when the contract is over.
There are many other posts like the radio operators, store men, rig safety and training coordinators, scaffolders, medics, and painters. Oil exploration jobs have also become popular especially because of the good pay they offer.
If you are interested in challenging and interesting work, and not afraid of hard work, working in the offshore jobs oil-drilling offers many opportunities and a very unique experience. The work is on the rigs; do not need any heavy physical labor, although many positions require the physical work. Offshore jobs are including cooks, doctors, and engineers, painters, cleaning customers and superiors as well.

Starting salaries range from $ 40,000 to work up to $ 60,000 per year on average during the last six months. This service, you can pay with funds for travel or hobbies or other activities that you want to pursue.
Oil jobs positions, including entry-roustabout whose responsibilities include the maintenance and cleaning deck maintenance, roustabout is the primary task to guide the crane and equipment for the plant floor, welders, scaffolders, radio operators, painters, and material supply men/women who claim that business and stock.
Some posts at offshore jobs will be a bachelor's degree or specialized training, such as a Mud Engineer length and drilling fluid must have a degree in chemistry and knowledge of drilling rigs and Safety & Training Co-coordinator, who have good communication skills, computer skills and knowledge about politics and society should have offshore safety laws. If you are entry-level positions in the oil rig, it is easy to promote to a higher position.

How Much Do Oil Rig Jobs Pay?
Drilling rigs are the framework that is being used to extract crude oil from the earth; the term might refer to oil rigs used on land or offshore oil rig platforms used at sea. Workers on these drilling rig platforms range from the well-educated engineers that develop tools and plan methodology to the roustabouts that do the "dirty work" which keeps the drilling rig running smoothly. What is the salary in the oil extraction industry depends upon the job.
Supervisors and Engineers on Drilling Rigs
According to a report of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 162,570 people nationwide work on gas and oil drilling rig platforms, as of May 2011. The biggest number of these employees, about 15,720, were petroleum engineers. On the drilling rig, these employees ensure equipment they have designed is running fluently and safely, and they also monitor whether their work plan is being carried out properly. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also reported they earned an average annual wage of US$150,890, which is equal to US$72.55 per hour. Other overseers are including the 4,330 "toolpushers," or extraction foremen, that supervise drilling operations on the oil rig platform. Those people averaged US$79,710 annually, or US$38.32 per hour.
Roustabouts on Oil Rigs
The 2nd-largest group of workers can be found at the opposite end of the wage spectrum from petroleum engineers: the 7,740 roustabouts that clean and provide maintenance of the equipment on the drilling rig platform. The bureau reported that roustabouts are averaged US$35,590 per year, which is equal to US$17.11 per hour. Another hands-on job which is at the low end of the oil rig pay spectrum belonged to the employers that set up and repair rigging on the site. They averaged US$30,080 annually, or US$14.46 per hour.
Pumpers on Drilling Rig Platforms
The 3rd-largest group of workers on drilling rigs were the wellhead pumpers that are engaged with operating and maintaining the large pumps that draw the oil from the earth once the wellhole has reached the underground reservoir. The U.S. Statistics Bureau reported the 7,510 pumpers in the field of oil extraction industry averaged US$43,040 annually, or US$20.69 per hour.
Extraction Work on Oil Rigs
There are 3 main types of skilled employees on drilling rigs which are the service unit operators that maintain wells and pumps, the drillers that run the rotary drills on the oil rig platform and the derrick operators that maintain the support structure. According to the statistic 5,630 service unit operators as of 2011 are averaged US$47,120 annually, or US$22.65 per hour; 4,430 drillers are averaged US$63,400 annually, or US$30.48 per hour; and 2,370 derrick operators, who are averaged US$52,520 annually, or US$25.25 per hour.
