How much money does an oil rig worker earn?
Depends on what part of the country you are in.
On the North slope of Alaska wages tend to be higher.
I currently work in Alaska and my wage as a floorhand/roughneck is 31 dollars an hour, plus OT and safety bonus.
A typical 2 week hitch will bring in close to 5500 per month net.
Mr. Fox,

Oil rig workers make nearly $100,000 a year
Oil rig workers make nearly $100,000 a year. It may be dangerous, difficult work, but oil drillers are well compensated for the job: In 2011 the average salary for rig workers and other industry personnel was $99,175. That number includes fat paychecks for the highly skilled, like $235,586 for a "drilling consultant" and $139,868 for a "reservoir engineer", according to Rigzone, an industry information provider that compiled the figures.
But even for someone with less than a year's experience the average wage was $66,923. A roustabout, one of the lowest workers on a rig who performs general maintenance and physical labor and requires little prior training, made $34,680 -- the median wage for all American workers.
The high wages are being fueled by a surge in demand for drilling experts as the industry becomes increasingly technical and a drilling boom in the United States, Brazil and elsewhere. Plus, many drillers are retiring -- a phenomenon in the industry known as "the great crew change" that's only expected to accelerate over the next decade.
For those with few skills that want a shot on a rig, one strategy is to move to any number of states that are currently seeing a boom in oil and gas production and get a job in logistics -- driving a truck that brings supplies to the rig.
Truck driving can pay $20 an hour or more, and from there it's easy to meet people on the rigs.
With a little planning it's even easier to get a job on a rig right away. Several trade schools offer classes in oil field work, and the military offers training for those exiting the armed forces which could lead directly to work as a roustabout on a rig.

Once you're on a rig, the companies themselves generally provide in-depth training programs where roustabouts can move up fairy quickly. "Rotary drill operators" make $58,540, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while a rig foreman makes $193,306, according to Rigzone.
Oil rig workers make on average just under $100,000 a year, but salaries can vary widely depending on skills.
A "mud engineer" averages $108,032 a year, according to Rigzone, while a subsea engineer makes $133,453.

Land rigs:
Roughnecks in the US on land rigs make salaries going from $8.00 for roustabouts up to twice that for some companies. A driller, who has years of experience may make $7000 for two weeks of constant work and a roughneck on the rig crew can expect to make from $12 to $35 per hour plus overtime. Overtime is a big part of pay.
Offshore drilling:
Galley hands These positions are usually contracted out through catering companies, so their pay is determined (and paid) by the catering company for which they work.
Roughneck/Roustabout average pay ranges between $20 - $23 per hour
Derrickman average pay ranges between $30 - $35 per hour
Driller average pay ranges $36 - $39 per hour
The above pay rates are based on 40 hours of straight time. Everything beyond that is overtime pay, paid at time and a half, based on seven 12 hour days per week. Most of the hitch rotations are 14 or 21 day hitches, meaning they work 14 or 21 days, then are home 14 or 21 days. The overseas rig workers, however, usually work 28 day hitches.
All other positions are salary based instead of hourly pay.
Tour pusher (pronounced 'tower') pay averages $105,000 - $ 125,000 per year, depending on the company and the location.
OIM (Offshore Installation Managers) averages $120,000 - $150,000 per year, also depending on the company and the location.
Rig Managers (sometimes called Rig Supervisors) are over all of the above positions, so their pay is considerably higher, but their pay depends on several factors, and their pay range is much broader than the ones above.
I have worked on drilling rigs 20+years as a floor hand I need work I live in ohio all the rigs comeing in are from texas an they say they don't need any one and if they do the hands come from texas I need help or a job
